Advisor Hold!

Anyone declared Legal Studies should now have an ‘Advisor Hold’ hold on their Fa17 registration in CalCentral.

The ‘Advisor Hold’ ensures that all declared students come in for advising at least once a semester in order to stay on track.

If you are on the Spring 2017 degree list and you have a hold, e-mail me. (If you already have, I’ll get back to you.) If you know for certain that you have completed all of the major requirements already and are on a different degree list, e-mail me.

If you are abroad or at UCDC, e-mail me.
Otherwise, everyone else come in, no e-mails.

If you need to declare (and you have an ‘undeclared senior hold’) come declare. Bring in the completed Legal Studies Application and your essay.

My drop in hours are 8:30-12 and 1:30-4.

P/NP Deadline

Friday, March 24 is the deadline to change from or to P/NP.
PLEASE check in CalCentral now, to confirm that your courses are set for the correct grading option.

NOTE: all courses for the Legal Studies major must be taken for a letter grade.

If you change a Legal Studies requirement to P/NP you won’t be able to use it for the major.
It can be tough to decide whether or not to change a course to P/NP, so if you have questions let me know.

NOTE: if you change a course to P/NP, make sure you pass it. A grade of C- minus or higher is required to Pass a class with a ‘P’.
For some grad programs, and law school, an ‘NP’ grade is factored into your admissions gpa as an ‘F’. Oh noooooo!

Dear Degree Candidate,

 

Please provide the Registrar’s Office with a long term address for diploma mailing, if you have not currently done so. Provided all University requirements are met, you should receive your diploma in mid to late April. Even so, the address you provide should be a reliable place to receive important mail for up to 3-6 months after graduation. The deadline to submit your diploma mailing address is March 24th. Failure to submit an address by the deadline means your diploma will be sent to the permanent address we have on file.

THREE WAYS TO SUBMIT YOUR DIPLOMA MAILING ADDRESS:

  1. Update your diploma mailing address on CalCentral. Click on your picture, select Profile and Contact Information.

  2. Diploma Mailing Request Form : Follow the provided link to download the form, and fill out and send electronically to brydolf6@berkeley.edu, or bring in person to 120 Sproul Hall

  3. Email: Send an email to brydolf6@berkeley.edu with the following information: Your full name as it appears on your student ID, your student ID number and your Long Term Diploma Mailing Address.

We are looking for enthusiastic and experienced students who are committed to issues of social justice and motivated to make social change within our communities to be a part of our internship program!

Open Positions:

Cal Self-Defense for All Assistant Coordinator [1 Position, Paid] is responsible for all administrative and office functions related to designing, implementing, and evaluating the Cal Self-Defense for All program. Cal Self-defense for All is a program that addresses violence and harassment in our community by empowering members of our community to know about the problem, develop personal strategies, and learn about physical resistive techniques in a supportive environment. Funded by the Chancellor’s Advisory Committee on Student Service Fees (CACSSF).

Core Program Assistants [2 Positions, Units Available] plan and execute GenEq’s annual programming. These are the programs that we believe are the necessary foundation to support our campus communities to thrive: 1.) National Coming Out Day or LGBTQ+ History Month, 2.) Transgender Communities Week, 3.) RISE: Celebrating Women, Community Love & Leadership, and 4.) Take Back the Night.

GenEq Course Facilitator [1 Position, Units Available] will co-facilitate, alongside a GenEq staff person, a semester-long course that is designed to give students a foundational understanding of GenEq’s topic areas (women, LGBTQ+ and sexual & dating violence), and related current events and activism. In addition to facilitating the course, this intern will also help with administrative tasks to manage the course.

LGBTQ+ Wellness Interns [2 Positions, Paid] will work with staff from GenEq and the Tang Center to provide wellness oriented programs and workshops throughout the year to LGBTQ+ undergraduates and graduates. These interns will help with (1) basic administration of the program, (2) ascertain needs and trends within LGBTQ+ wellness, (3) identify and communicate with potential speakers and facilitators, (4) provide advisory on the program, and (5) promote and market the program to students widely. The LGBTQ+ Wellness Internship is made possible through funding provided by the Wellness Fee Referendum.

Marketing, Outreach & Volunteer Coordination Interns [2 Positions, Units Available] will work to increase the visibility of, and participation in, GenEq’s programs, services and resources. The interns will be taking on a baseline of marketing, outreach and engagement projects that are essential to the functioning of GenEq, though creativity in the execution of these responsibilities and the proposing of supplementary projects will be expected.

Queer Cal Pals Coordinator [2 Positions, Paid] will design, plan and implement the Queer Cal Pals Program for the 2017-2018 academic year. The goal of the program is to connect incoming undergraduate and graduate students (Pals) with on and off campus resources and communities across the LGBTIQQAA spectra. The program is also designed to create connections across the campus LGBTQ+ student communities by engaging student volunteers/peers.volunteers/peers. Queer Cal Pals is made possible through funding provided by the Chancellor’s Advisory Committee on Student Services and Fees (CACSSF).


Wonder Women Weekly Coordinators [2 Positions, Paid – Workstudy Only]
advocate for and organize events supporting women’s community building, leadership and empowerment. Under the direction of the Director of Women’s Resources, this position is responsible for all activities related to designing, implementing, and evaluating women’s community building and healing programs. Funded by the Chancellor’s Advisory Committee on Student Service Fees (CACSSF).

Undergraduate
and Graduate Students, the Lavender Graduation Celebration Planning Committee invites you to apply to be a student speaker at this year’s LGBTQ+ graduation celebration to be held on Friday May 5, 2017 at 6:00pm in the Alumni House at UC Berkeley.  

Eligibility: UCB Undergraduate or Graduate Students who will be on the degree list for either spring, summer or fall 2017 or who graduated December 2016. Allies of the LGBTQ+ community are also welcome to apply.

Up to 3 speakers will be chosen with at least one speaker being a graduate student (masters, doctorate, professional degree). The selection of students will be based on their service within the campus or off campus LGBTQ+ communities, and who have a cogent, engaging and inspirational story or message to their fellow graduates. We value a diversity of speakers and Cal LGBTQ+ experiences and thus encourage students from various parts of campus to apply. Please prepare your remarks to be no longer than 5-8 mins.
