SPRING 2020 INTERNSHIP ANNOUNCEMENT
UNDERGRADUATE INTERN
Death Penalty Clinic
University of California, Berkeley, School of Law

The ideal candidate for this unique opportunity is dependable and responsible. We are looking for one or two interns for the spring semester, with the possibility of continuing into the summer and/or fall. We require a University of California, Berkeley undergraduate, preferably a junior or senior, who can commit a minimum of ten (10) hours per week during the semester. (Summer internships are double that time.) These are unpaid positions.

The Death Penalty Clinic is a law practice engaged in direct representation of individuals facing capital punishment. Interns will have the opportunity to work with faculty, the clinic paralegal, and law students. They will be held to the same confidentiality requirements as faculty, staff, and law students in the clinic.

As an intern, you must be:
-dependable in terms of your time commitment
-trustworthy because of the serious responsibility of working on capital cases
-detail-oriented to best support the clinic and our clients.

Responsibilities may include, but certainly are not limited to:
-inventorying and analyzing files
-researching information online relevant to cases -organizing exhibits and pleadings
-preserving and managing records -updating databases

As an intern, you will be exposed to the realities of working on a capital case and engage in projects that contribute to the professional work of the organization.

For more information regarding the Clinic, see our website at https://www.law.berkeley.edu/clinics/death-penalty-clinic/

To apply, please email your resume and a cover letter explaining your interest to Heather Canfield, Clinic Paralegal, at hcanfield@clinical.law.berkeley.edu by Saturday, December 14, 2019 at 8:00 am.

Please submit materials in one combined PDF, starting with your cover letter, and title the document as follows: LAST NAME, FIRST NAME – Application
We will interview select applicants in January.

‘Perennial’ Call for Submssns
Call for Submissions — Perennial: The Undergraduate Environmental Journal of Berkeley

Write for Perennial: The Undergraduate Environmental Journal of Berkeley, the first undergraduate environmental journal on campus. Perennial is a student-run publication that seeks to provide an accessible and diverse platform for the Berkeley community to share their insights on a wide range of environmental and sustainability issues.

Our Fall 2019 issue will feature articles concerning the theme “Justice.” As the world faces more complex and widespread environmental degradation, it is becoming more apparent that the effects of these issues are not spread evenly. In keeping with our theme, we ask that all submissions somehow incorporate justice. This criterion can be applied broadly, and we look forward to seeing how you wish to interpret it. Some questions to consider in contemplating this theme – who bears the burden of environmental degradation? How can we center equity in solutions?

Please use this link to submit and review the submission guidelines before submitting an article. Submissions will be accepted until December 15, 2019 and will be reviewed on a rolling basis. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Perennial at calperennial@gmail.com

What to Do When an Entry-Level Job Requires “Two Years of Experience”

Most entry-level job postings frustrate college seniors as they often require “two years of experience” but don’t let this discourage you as you should still apply! The reason why you should still apply is because the majority of these job postings list only what they wish for in an perfect candidate, so if you meet 80% of the requirements you should still apply as you are still a very competitive applicant!
