I am writing to you regarding a Leadership Decal Opportunity facilitated by the GSPP designed for pairs, though individual students are welcome to apply as well. Our course is a 2 unit decal that would be ideal for students looking to complete their schedules with a small class to make their unit requirements. We have in mind duos from campus organizations in positions such as President and Vice President, Internal VP and External VP, or other leaders from campus organizations who work closely together. The class is called “Public Policy 198: Leading By 2 (LX2)- Research and Practice.” We at LX2 hope you will pass this message on to all students you advise in your department. Please let students who are interested know they can find information on how to apply to our Decal on our website: http://leadingx2decalfall2019.simplesite.com. Class is held in Evans 3 on Thursday evenings, 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Why Paired Leadership?

Pairs are the ever-present dyad that we all see and experience throughout our lives, however, few are intentionally cultivated, and many end up failing. Research shows that when developed properly, leadership pairs generate higher goal achievement, build stronger trust among management and employees, and create an organization/team where everyone benefits and is more successful.

You will be taught jointly by our Faculty Sponsor (Daniel Mulhern of GSPP and Haas), a Nationally Recognized Leadership Expert who developed the Leading By Two difference, and four Berkeley Students, (Henry, Shruti, Samantha, and Peter), who have worked with Dan at his LX2 consulting firm. Through various activities, assignments, and lectures, you will learn from this course how to understand your own leadership style, as well as how you and your partner can best lead together. You will gain confidence in your abilities to lead together in your field, and why paired leadership prevails where the lone leader fails. You will gain concrete skills to identify your own leadership type, personnel management styles, and how to use the differences between you and your partner to become a multi-faceted, effective leadership team.

Thank you for help,

Samantha Nell
