The ASUC Student Legal Clinic is looking for new undergraduate caseworkers to join UC Berkeley’s on-campus, undergraduate legal clinic! We are a group of committed undergraduate students with interests in law and service to the community. In addition to providing free legal research and case report compilation to anyone in the Berkeley community, our caseworkers are also trained to file state and federal tax returns through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program. While our tax and legal research training is an asset to our caseworkers in its own right, we also host weekly meetings featuring networking and professional development training as well as presentations by Bay Area legal professionals and law school representatives.

Our application is due September 13th by 11:59pm and can be found at https://studentlegalclinic.berkeley.edu/join-slc. We will also have two info sessions next week on Tuesday, September 10th at 9pm in Barrows 136 and Wednesday, September 11th at 8pm in Barrows 151.

6) GP&P Minor Info Sess

GP&P Minor Info Sess

You are invited to attend a Global Poverty & Practice Minor Information Session!

The GPP Minor introduces students to the theoretical frameworks, methods, and practical skills necessary to engage with global poverty and inequality in effective ways.

The minor requires five courses and a “Practice Experience.”  This experience is a central component of the minor in which students partner with domestic or international non-governmental or community organizations, government agencies, or other poverty or development programs, on various dimensions of poverty action – from food security and sustainable technologies to economic justice and grass-roots political power.  The combination of the coursework for the minor and this real world experience allows students to connect theories and practices of poverty action. Funding is available to support students’ practice experiences.

The deadline to declare the minor this semester is Wednesday, October 9th.  There are no prerequisites required to declare.

The Declaration Form and additional information about the minor can be found at: http://blumcenter.berkeley.edu/gppminor.

Information Sessions about the minor will be held in Blum Hall 100A/B (Ground Floor) at the following times:

Wednesday, September 4th 12 – 1 PM

Tuesday, September 10th 4 – 5 PM

Thursday, September 19th 3 – 4 PM

Tuesday, September 24th 5 – 6 PM

Monday, September 30th 12 – 1 PM

Friday, October 4th 11 AM – 12 PM

Contact gppminor@berkeley.edu with any questions.

Interested in environmental policy and action? Consider joining Perennial: The Berkeley Undergraduate Environmental Journal. We are a new publication at Cal this semester, seeking to showcase the work of Berkeley’s environmental community through editorials and scholarly articles. Whether you are interested in writing, editing, graphic design, marketing, web design, or finance, if you want to contribute to those crucial conversations, we have a role for you.
