6) Law Firm Work!

Law Firm Work!

Hello all! I work for an immigration law firm in the heart of Oakland and we are looking for qualified people to join our team! We are accepting applications for entry level paralegals and legal assistants, as well as paid internship positions for students who can commit at least 16 hours per week.

We do anything from deportation defense to all sorts of visas, asylums, inadmissibility waivers etc. A lot of what we do intersects with other types of law such as criminal defense and family law. You would work closely with the attorneys and be responsible for cases from start to finish. We write motions for court, translate documents, prepare clients for their hearings, prepare necessary paperwork, do extensive legal research, and work directly with the clients. It’s a small boutique firm so we really do get a lot of hands on experience.

Prior legal/ law firm experience is not necessary, but you must have a passion for learning and an interest in law. Ideally we are looking for people who can speak Spanish, write well, and advocate for others, however anyone is welcome to apply. If you or someone you know is interested, send me your resume at jdelcastillo@gwlawgroupattorneys.com.

7) Green Corps Paid Trning

Green Corps Paid Trning

My name is Elise Peterson-Trujillo and I’m an Assistant Organizing Director with Green Corps, the Field School for Environmental Organizing. Green Corps is a year-long paid fellowship that prepares recent college graduates for a career in environmental organizing by providing classroom training, hands-on experience running campaigns, and connections to jobs in the environmental & social change movement.

I’m a Bay Area native and will be coming home to talk to UC Berkeley students about Green Corps in October! I graduated from Acalanes High School in Lafayette in 2013 before moving to St Louis for college and then started Green Corps in 2017. After completing the training program, I joined our central staff and now oversee 5 organizers working to curb pollution from industrial agriculture across the Midwest.

I am looking to get the word out to students at UC Berkeley about our paid training program in environmental organizing and advocacy. We focus on providing college graduates with the skills they’ll need to tackle pressing environmental issues. Our early application deadline is October 1st, so I’m particularly hoping to let graduating seniors know about this opportunity and thought that your Legal Studies students would be interested.

(elise@greencorps.org) I’m also happy to speak to students directly with any questions; my number is (925)705-5814.
