4) Be a Juror at Boalt

Be a Juror at Boalt

Perhaps the best way to understand the legal process is to serve as a juror. We would like to offer the Legal Studies majors the opportunity to serve as jurors in Professors Cynthia McGuinn and Rich Schoenberger’s Advanced Trial Prep jury selection class and final trials at Berkeley Law. The law students will first engage in a jury selection exercise on April 11, 2012 in Room 140 from 6:30-9:00. We will provide pizza! We are looking for 6 jurors this night.

On April 21, the students will conduct a full on jury trial including short jury selection, opening statements, direct and cross examinations and closing arguments. Most of the students have extensive experience in Mock Trial competitions. We are looking for 8-10 jurors to observe the trial and conduct deliberations in a very interesting child endangerment case! Broken bones, felonies, intrigue! What could be more interesting! The trials will be held from approximately 9:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Boalt Hall’s courtroom classroom.

If interested in attending class on April 11, please reply to Professor Schoenberger at by 4/6/12.

If interested in attending the trial on 4/21, please reply to Professor Schoenberger at by 4/16/12

Thanks very much.

–Richard H. Schoenberger

UCD Law Symposium

Reminder: Please join us for the annual UC Davis School of Law, Environmental Law Symposium

April 13th, 2012 from 9:00am to 4:30pm
Please note change in start time

In 2002, the California Legislature established the Renewables Portfolio Standard (RPS) Program to increase California’s reliance on renewable energy resources. The RPS Program requires investor-owned utilities, electric service providers, and community choice aggregators to increase procurement from eligible renewable energy resources until they reach 33% by 2020. The 2012 symposium will explore the obstacles of meeting this goal through solar development.

Featuring an introduction by Senator Joe Simitian and a keynote presentation by Dr. Robert Weisenmiller, Chair of the California Energy Commission

Morning panels will discuss the legislative imperative behind California’s RPS goals and the mechanics of solar development, including current economic and siting challenges. The afternoon panels will specifically focus on the implications of solar development on farmland and sensitive habitat, and the statutory frameworks for permitting and mitigation. The closing panel will dicuss the role of local governments in facilitating solar energy development within California, including counties’ recent efforts to plan for and to permit solar projects while maintaining their communities’ traditional industries and identity.

For more information regarding the schedule, including speakers and moderators, please visit our symposium website at
